This community isn’t short of good ideas. It’s short of things that get finished. I’d like to help finish them by coaching process and technology to volunteers.
Before I filed, I sat down with five current directors to ask what the job really involves and what they’d want from a new colleague. I listened more than I talked, which anyone who knows me will tell you is rare. They all expressed various degrees of support for the strategic framework I delivered in April and agree communication is an ongoing challenge today.
I like people, and I’m easy to find. A director’s real job is listening. I’d rather hear what’s bugging you over coffee than read about it in a complaint.
I work from numbers, not hunches. I’ll bring research and data to every issue I can.
I’d do the whole job. Not just the parts I know best. Budgets, buildings and policy all deserve a director’s time, and they’ll get mine.
I know I’d be one of nine. We make decisions together, based on evidence.
I’ll bring ideas, energy and the occasional bad joke.
